Rainier Valley Teen Center Current Education and Career Development Programs
Power Hour Power Hour is a mandatory hour where members work on their homework and school related activities. Power Hour encourage youth to be responsible for their homework and academic success by providing them a quiet environment in which to complete their homework. Adult and youth volunteers provide homework help and tutoring to encourage members to become self-directed learners.
CareerLaunch CareerLaunch is a career exploration and mentoring program for teens ages 13-18. This program includes a website that allows teens to take an interest survey, explore careers, identify training or college requirements, seek our financial aid and play skill-building games. There's also an easy-to-use Career Exploration Quick Reference Guide with a broad range of career planning and job skills activities that Club staff or volunteers can use with teens.
Goals For Graduation Goals For Graduation introduces Clu members ages 6-15 to the concept of academic goal setting. In one-on-one sessions with Club professionals, members set achievable "Know-I-Can" goals, more challenging "Think-I-Can" goals and yearly "Believe I Can" goals, then create action plans. The program provides for recognition of members' achievements at every step of the journey.

 Web Tech Teaches the basics of creating websites, advancing to more sites that include page links, graphics, texts and sound.
Music Tech Explores a variety of digital music software applications and basic music theory where members learn to mix musical loops and compose and record original songs.
Movie Tech Helps members learn how to write screenplays, film their own movies and edit their raw footage.
Design Tech Teaches artistic concepts and technology skills that allow students to create professional-qaulity print materials and animation.
Photo Tech Explores the photo composition of digital photos and the effects of distance and angle. Then members learn how to use photo-editing software.
Money Matters: Make It Count Dynamic financial literacy program designed specifically to help teens (13 to 18) expand their knowledge of money management and learn the skills that lead to financial independence and well-being.
Project Learn Project Learn, an educational enhancement philosophy, reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school through "high-yield" learning activities at the Club. Research shows that fun academically beneficial activities increase academic performace. These activities include leisure reading, writing activities, tutoring assistance, and cognitive-based game play with titles like Scrabble. Project Learn emphasizes collaborations between Club staff, parents and school personnel.
