Rainier Valley Teen Center Current Health & Life Skills Programs
SMART Girls An outgrowth of the popular and effective SMART Moves program, SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8 to 17. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.
Young Mens' Group Also an outgrowth of the SMART Moves program, Young Men's Group is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for young men ages 8 to 17. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable adolescent boys to develop to their full potential.
Apple Corps Cooking Class* Apple Corps responds to growing health crises by placing a team of AmeriCorps National Service Members in school and community organizations directly serving children and families to raise nutrition and fitness awareness. Apple Corps cooking classes will teach members how to cook health snacks and meals with fresh fruits and vegetables.
WOHF* The Washington Oral Health Foundation is committed to preventing dental disease through education and access to care as Partners in Prevention with Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Washington State. The goal is to reduce the incidence of dental disease in low-income families by empowering children to assume more personal responsiblity for theor own oral health, helping families understand the impact dental disease has on the entire body and teaching them how dental disease can be prevented.
Crisis Clinic - Teen Link* Offers quarterly presentations to teens to discuss the issues in their lives ranging from stress mangement and effective coping mechanisms to just having a friend to confide in and vent with. Anonymous and confidential help line for youth: 1.866.TEENLINK (833 - 6546)
